BANGLADESH

“My country has no system.”
So apologised a university aged Dhaka lad, as the traffic snarled and snaked and belched around us.
He was right. Dhaka is chaotic. The rickshaw capital of the world has some of the scariest electric wiring you’ll ever see, in narrow laneways which reveal tricks and treats. Upcountry, things are much calmer, if you survive the bus ride. Verdant green, forests and farms, a surprising number of abandoned Hindu mansions and ancient cities. Ride a rocket! That’s what they call the steamer ships which ply the rivers. Just do not go deck class. Be prepared to be stared at. By everyone. All the time.
