“Welcome to the warm heart of Africa” was how we were greeted as we stomped out of Tanzania. The change was obvious. Malawi is not blessed or plagued by large numbers of fly in/fly out tourists, and the people really do treat you warmly.
From laid back hills around Livingstonia, the sleepy towns and beaches on Lake Malawi, or viewing elephants from a boat on the Liwonde Rivers. There are other smaller hiking destinations, and the trek up Mount Malanje is one of the easier and better mountain climbs in Africa.
Unless it rains. All day.
And your porter falls in the river.
