NAMIBIA

DESPITE SUFFERING FROM BRAD & ANGELINA, the name “Namibia” still manages to draw blank stares and “where?”
That’s fine with me, although anyone with an interest in wildlife and desert landscapes will have plans to visit this vast land. Home Erectus killed elephants here with stone axes 750,000 years ago. The nomadic San have been here over 2500 years, with the Herero following in the 1600s, then the Europeans.
Sparesly populated. 130 million year old deserts. The driest country south of the Sahara. Towns few and far between. 12 major ethnic groups. Constantly changing landscapes. Dramatic coasts. Ghost towns.
First class camping facilities. Some pretty good food, with a German influence. Quirky towns, bizarre plants. Towering sand dunes. Hospitality. Animals, animals, animals.
