SYRIA: THE LAND THAT GOD FORGOT.

The Syria I knew is gone. Forever. The nicest people I have come across yet. I say that without hesitation. It is sad to think about what has been destroyed in Syria. The incredible culture and history have been bombed, shot up, knocked down, looted and in the case of Palmyra, detonated. The fate of its people worse.
What happened to the boy on his donkey I photographed outside Raqqa? The man who owned the beautiful Pontiac in Palmyra? What remains of the “lost cities” of Serjilla, or the man who invited us to his house when were lost?
The Syria I remember was one of fabulous people, fantastic food, castles from the Crusades, Roman cities half buried in sand, historic suoqs and more.
