SRI LANKA

THE TEAR-DROP shaped country, at the bottom of India, known once as Ceylon, but for much longer as “Serendip”, which gives us the word “serendipity”. The recent tragic history seems to never be far away, but beauty is also ever present.
The south coast beaches are postcard-perfect, no filter needed. The hills around Ella, the tea country, so beautiful. The food packs a punch, the historic sights surprise, Sri Lanka is one great island destination.
We visited in around 2001, when civil war was still simmering. Northern destinations like Jaffna and east coast areas like Trinco’ were not open. Next time!

THE COAST: 1340km of ocean front views.

THE INTERIOR: Tea country and old man Buddhas.
